Zimmer MedizinSystems: Shockwave Therapy for Injury Rehab

Shockwave therapy has become a popular modality in many fields of rehab. Recently at Farmingdale Physical Therapy West, we started introducing shockwave therapy to some patients. The Zimmer, or Thumper is the machine we use in the clinic to administer shockwave therapy to the appropriate patients. The machine is used to deliver energy to target tissues that normally cannot be reached through manual therapy such as massage. The device helps increase circulation to the target tissue, therefore assisting the healing process. The Zimmer has been proven effective for treating Plantar Fasciitis, Tendonitis and many other soft-tissue injuries.

The Zimmer works by using a hand piece with a projectile inside. The projectile is accelerated and creates a mechanical pressure wave, which is transferred to the soft tissue and radiates the tissue. The energy is absorbed by the tissue and triggers a reaction to create better circulation to the injured area. The Zimmer can be used to help increase a person’s flexibility and mobility to the treated body part.

Schedule an appointment today by calling 516-731-3583 and ask a therapist is the Zimmer is a good option for you!
